Beverly Bieker, Chief Information Officer, City of Gastonia

Beverly Bieker, City of Gastonia CIO, has been with the municipality for 29 years, where she started as a programmer and worked her way to Database and Application Administrator, Assistant Director and finally CIO in 2016.

She is a graduate of Gaston College and the University of NC at Chapel Hill’s CGCIO program. She is a member of SIM and NC Local Government Information Systems Association. She chairs the Public Safety Steering Committee that supports the consolidate public safety system between Gastonia, Gaston County and the City of Belmont.

Christina Bray, Former Chief Information Security Officer, Old Dominion Freight Line

Christina is a strategic and risk focused IT Cybersecurity Leader with 18+ years of proven success in IT Leadership. She’s experienced in multiple areas of IT including Information Security, Vendor Management, Risk & Compliance, Enterprise Architecture, Strategy, Project Management, Budget Management, Organizational Change Management, Contract Negotiation, and Training. She has experience in both Financial Services as well as Transportation/Logistics. In her most recent role, she served as CISO/Director of Technology Services at Old Dominion Freight Line for over 5 years. She has a BA from Syracuse University and a MBA from Northcentral University. PMP, GRCP, CRISC, CGEIT, CISM.

Craig Richardville, Former Chief Information Officer, Carolinas HealthCare Systems

Dynamic business leader in healthcare’s digital transformation, its transition to value-based care, and treating patients as informed consumers. As former Senior Vice President & Chief Information and Analytics Officer at Carolinas HealthCare System (Atrium Health) for over 20 years, Mr. Richardville transformed the company into a national leader in the effective use of technology, utilizing data as a driver; analytics and business intelligence; artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotic process automation.

Mr. Richardville was named the 2017 CIO of the Year “Leadership Award” recipient by Charlotte CIO for his impact on industry leaders across all verticals. He was awarded the 2015 John E. Gall, Jr. CIO of the Year by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and HIMSS in recognition of his leadership in driving digital transformation in healthcare. In 2013, he was awarded CIO of the Year by the Charlotte Business Journal. Under his leadership, Carolinas HealthCare System has earned the “Most Wired” designation for 14 consecutive years, received the “Most Wired Advanced” award for the last two years and achieved HIMSS EMR Adoption Model Stage 7 for both Acute and Ambulatory.

Derek Root, Chief Technology Officer, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

Derek Root joined Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 2017. He came to CMS from Washington County Public Schools in Maryland, where he was also CTO. Prior to this position, he served as the Director of Technology for Frederick County Public Schools in Maryland.

Previously he served as a Program Manager for the Presidio Corporation where he managed the formation of the Security Compliance and Continuity of Operations centers at the Department of Homeland Security as well as supporting various Federal, educational and enterprise class commercial clients. Including the Department of Defense, Department of Transportation, the University of Maryland System and Northrop Grumman.

 

Christina Dorfman, Certified Technology Business Management Executive, Bank of America 

Technology business executive with over 20 years’ experience establishing and promoting technology business management standards to identify and execute impactful technology strategies that deliver measurable value and achieve corporate objectives.

Adept in collaboratively driving value across the technical teams, the front-line unit business partners and the various governing/control functions including but not limited to risk and compliance.

 

Dr. Kenneth Russell, Vice President for Digital Transformation and Chief Information Officer, Pfeiffer University

Dr. Ken Russell is a respected organization and technology leader/coach and turnaround specialist. He is an organization builder with over 25 years of experience implementing comprehensive organization change and transformation efforts.

He continues to be a leader in digital transformation, social ideation, and organization change serving as Pfeiffer University’s CIO and VP of Digital Transformation. In this role he leads Pfeiffer’s technology and academic computing initiatives and provides counsel for the University President.

He was a Director and Strategist at Cisco, where he led the Intellectual Capital Transformation group. Dr. Russell leads with a unique combination of pragmatic experience and innovative vision. He understands the necessary balance that exists between what is espoused . . . and what is real.

Mark Staples, Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer, College of Charleston

Mark Staples has served as a senior information technology executive with 31 years of IT leadership experience at seven universities (two of which were academic medical centers and level-1 trauma center hospitals). His currently serves as the Sr. VP and CIO at the College of Charleston. Mark is also an educator who has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Northeastern. In 2015 he was nominated for Boston CIO of the Year in non-profit sector and in 2016 he finished as a finalist among more than 70 other CIOs.

Pierre Arbajian, Artificial Intelligence Architect, Wells Fargo

Pierre Arbadjian has a broad range of experiences in the area of data and computer engineering, he has been an IT developer, architect and leader designing and developing complex data solutions for over 20 years with IBM, Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank.

Pierre has a passion for data and is a strong believer in its benefits. Pierre has been actively developing and leading AI and machine learning solutions for the last five years in speech processing, CRM and banking. Pierre holds a BS from GA Tech, a MS from the University of Tennessee and is currently finishing his data science PhD dissertation in Data Science.

Ricardo G. Diaz, Founder and CEO, Blockchain CLT

Ricardo is a Technology Executive veteran and with over 22 years of experience in Cyber Security and Enterprise Software Development. He is intensively involved in the Blockchain paradigm shift affecting all industries. He is the CEO and Founder of a Blockchain for Social Impact nonprofit startup called Blockchain CLT, decentralized computing (Blockchain) for anti-human trafficking & cybersecurity.

Before that Ricardo served as Vice President of engineering, security technology architect and security consultant at several startups, large enterprises, and entrepreneur.

Ricardo held various senior leadership roles for 13 years at Oracle. Product marketing, business development, architect and consulting for all of Oracle’s security products and services. He launched Oracle’s first ever Cloud Security Services.

 

Markus Hill, Chief Information Officer, Rodgers Builders, Inc. 

As the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Rodgers Builders, Inc. since 2013, Markus Hill is responsible for Information Technology strategy, functions, processes and people company-wide.

Markus leads teams to implement and facilitate “best practice” computer and information processes for all of Rodgers’ project sites, regional offices and corporate headquarters. He is also heavily involved in steering the direction of the company’s use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to best serve Rodgers’ clients.

Markus has more than 25 years of experience in technology, ranging from experience as a small business owner to ten years of experience working in a Fortune 500 company.

He serves on multiple business and technology councils and advisory boards. His work has been featured in magazine and newspapers including Fortune, CIO, FastCompany, Microsoft Magazine, and Start. He holds a degree in Liberal Studies from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is currently an MBA candidate at Wake Forest University.

Douglas Debrecht, Former Vice President and Chief Information Officer, B/E Aerospace

Doug Debrecht was VP and CIO at B/E Aerospace until it was acquired by Rockwell Collins. Mr. Debrecht lead a number of key initiatives including an ERP implementation, data warehouse design and construction, security overhaul, and application standardization.

Mr. Debrecht came to B/E in April 2012 after serving as VP and CIO at Chemtura, Raytheon International, and Raytheon Aircraft. Prior to that, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Raytheon’s Aircraft Integration Services division and Emerson Electric in St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Debrecht earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and master’s degree in engineering, both at Texas A&M University.
